Legal & Content Removal

YourBittorrent is an index of files available on the BitTorrent network. We do not host, link to, provide or upload any of the files listed — our bots automatically crawl public torrent sites and store information about .torrent files; the actual content never touches our servers. We don't pro-actively ban keywords (legitimate content would get caught too), but we fully comply with the European Union Copyright Directive (EUCD): infringement notices are treated with the highest priority, and we act to protect copyright holders' rights.

Content removal — how to send a valid notice

If your copyrighted material has been indexed by YourBittorrent, you can request its removal by sending us an infringement notice. Notices must contain all of the following — incomplete or invalid notices will not be processed.

Identify the infringing torrents

List every page on YourBittorrent.com where you believe your work is infringed. Each infringing torrent must be identified by its own URL, starting with yourbittorrent.com/torrent/… or yourbittorrent.com/down/….

Search-result URLs are not accepted. Pages starting with yourbittorrent.com/?q= are search results: they contain no copyrighted data themselves, and the adverts on them are automatically generated from the visitor's queries. Removal requests that only list /?q= URLs are ignored.

Contact information

Provide sufficient contact information so we can reach you — a name and an email address are required.

Evidence of ownership

Provide evidence that you own the copyright to the content in question.

Good-faith statement

Include this statement, word for word:

"I have a good faith belief that use of the copyrighted materials described above as allegedly infringing is not authorized by the copyright owner, its agent, or the law."

Declaration under oath

Also include this statement, word for word:

"I swear, under penalty of perjury, that the information in the notification is accurate and that I am the copyright owner or am authorized to act on behalf of the owner of an exclusive right that is allegedly infringed."

Email it to us

Send all of the above to . We will confirm valid notices and remove the reported torrents.

What happens next

We act on all complete removal requests in a timely manner. We verify the information you send us and remove the content once your notification is accepted.

Misrepresentation has consequences. You are liable for damages, including costs and attorneys' fees, if you materially misrepresent that a product or activity infringes your copyright. In Online Policy Group v. Diebold, a company that sent an infringement notice over material protected by fair use was ordered to pay such costs — it agreed to pay $125,000. If you are not sure whether material infringes your copyright, consult an attorney first.

Fair play — both ways

Unlike many torrent sites, we handle virtually all valid infringement notifications. In return we ask for fairness: if you keep emailing daily about content that has already been removed (after we've told you so), we will start ignoring notices from your address. Complaining to our hosting provider or domain registrar won't help either — they refer YourBittorrent-related abuse reports back to us.

Don't pay anyone to do this. There are scams out there charging money to "get content deleted" from YourBittorrent — companies with fancy names like TakeDownPiracy or Removeyourcontent. You never need them: simply email us the required information yourself and we will process it as soon as possible, free of charge.
