La celebre fiaba La Bella e la Bestia torna sul grande schermo in una nuova rivisitazione live-action dell'indimenticabile classico d'animazione Disney del 1991. Villeneuve è un paesino immerso nella provincia francese, dove la vita scorre lenta e monotona. Belle, figlia di Maurice, un eccentrico artista locale, sogna per sé una vita diversa e conta i giorni che la separano da una fantomatica avventura. Un giorno, dopo essere stato attaccato da un branco di lupi sulla strada del mercato, Maurice trova rifugio in un castello in rovina, non sapendo che quel luogo oscuro e misterioso è in realtà la dimora di una temibile Bestia. Il padrone del castello, su tutte le furie per l'intrusione, rinchiude il malcapitato in una torre gelida e Belle, preoccupata, si mette alla sua ricerca. L'unico modo per liberare il padre è prendere il suo posto: la ragazza finisce ospite forzato di quel luogo maledetto, dove gli abitanti hanno le sembianze di oggetti d'arredo parlanti e il loro padrone è un mostro sgarbato e senza cuore. Ma lei, che è di temperamento forte e coraggioso, non si piega agli ordini che le vengono impartiti e non perde occasione per farsi valere. Solo dopo una disavventura nei boschi e un salvataggio tempestivo, la diffidenza iniziale si dissolve e Belle scorge, sotto la spessa pelliccia e l'aspetto animale, il lato più gentile e generoso della Bestia, scopre di condividere con lui la passione per i libri e fra i due nasce una tenera amicizia. Il candelabro Lumière, l'orologio Tockins, la teiera mrs Brick e tutti gli altri, cominciano a sperare che Belle sia davvero quella giusta, la ragazza che con la forza del suo amore potrà spezzare l'incantesimo.
