Otac iz predgrađa naiđe na oštar otpor susjedstva kada nagovori svoju ženu da preskoče Božić i odu na krstarenje. Blair (Julie Gonzalo), kći Luthera (Tim Allen) i Nore (Jamie Lee Curtis), je u Peruu te njih dvoje odluče zaboraviti ukrase, kolače i božićne zabave i sve to zamijeniti krstarenjem Karipskim otočjem.
No njihovi su susjedi zaprepašteni tom idejom, pogotovo susjedski nametljivac Vic Frohmeyer (Dan Aykroyd). Da stvari budu gore, Luther odbija staviti osvijetljenog snjegovića na krov, ukras zbog kojeg je Ulica Hemlock godinama osvajala mnoga natjecanja.
Bitka između obitelji Krank i susjeda je na vrhuncu narušavajući sklad, koji je vladao susjedstvom, kada Luther i Nora prime telefonski poziv svoje kćeri, koja im javlja da ipak dolazi kući za Božić
