- Consulting is not a job. It's more like, seven jobs. They can be great fun, and very rewarding, but you need to be prepared. People who take on consulting roles typically believe they need three things: skills and experience, a bit of marketing, and an interest in working in a variety of environments. All of these items are accurate, but seriously incomplete. Successful consultants know they need much more. And, what clients expect from consultants can vary widely.
