Nina Simone

Of all the great singers from the late twentieth century, Nina Simone was one of the most difficult artists to place in a certain group. She recorded soul, jazz and pop songs on a large scale, which often appeared on the same album. She was also easy with blues, gospel music and Broadway. Regarding the emotion she conveyed, it is probably correct to regard her as a soul singer. Just like Aretha Franklin or Dusty Springfield, Simone was an eclectic who added a certain amount of soul to all her work. That was one of her strongest qualities and it is probably also the reason why she never had a particularly large crowd of fans.
