The Vigil, film diretto da Keith Thomas, è la storia di un Yakov (Dave Davis), un giovane membro di un gruppo di supporto di Brooklyn disoccupato, molto fragile, con un triste passato e senza un soldo. Un giorno riceve un'offerta di lavoro molto particolare, diventare lo shomer, che nella cultura ebraica indica una persona che veglia su una salma per proteggerla da tutti gli spiriti maligni. Yakov deve vigilare il corpo senza vita di Litvak (Ronald Cohen), un sopravvissuto all'Olocausto, che ha vissuto gli ultimi anni da recluso e in compagnia di una moglie ormai demente.
