Trama:
Al centro della storia di Black Narcissus c'è un palazzo costruito in cima a un picco sull'Himalaya, chiamato “Casa delle Donne”, che custodisce molti oscuri segreti.
Siamo nel 1934, negli ultimi anni del dominio britannico in India, quando le giovani suore dell’ordine di Saint Faith provano a stabilire la propria missione in quel palazzo, i cui misteri terrificanti risvegliano segreti proibiti che sembrano portare al ripetersi di una terribile tragedia.
L’ambiziosa sorella Clodagh (Gemma Arteron) è a capo della missione in una parte remota dell’Himalaya. Il palazzo di Mopu viene donato dal generale Toda Rai, che spera che le Suore di St. Faith liberino la “Casa delle Donne” dai ricordi infelici legati alla sua defunta sorella, Srimati. Sebbene Clodagh ignori gli avvertimenti del signor Dean, rozzo agente del generale, presto l’isolamento e l’atmosfera lugubre del palazzo si ripercuotono sulle suore, in particolare su Sorella Ruth. Mentre passato e presente si scontrano, l’arrivo del giovane generale Dilip Rai diviene il catalizzatore di un’esplosione di desideri repressi che potrebbe sfociare in un confronto fatale.
