Greta, film diretto da Neil Jordan, è la storia della giovane Frances (Chloë Grace Moretz), che, provata dalla morte della madre e con un lavoro poco stimolante, si rende conto che la vita a New York non è quella che sognava. Caduta in una profonda solitudine e in difficoltà economiche, un giorno la ragazza trova una borsa su un sedile della metropolitana e, invece di rubarla, decide di rintracciare la proprietaria.

La borsetta appartiene a Greta (Isabelle Huppert), una ricca vedova solitaria che trascorre le sue giornate suonando il piano nella sua stravagante casa di Brooklyn. Tra le due donne si instaura sin da subito un forte legame e in breve tempo la loro conoscenza si trasforma in un'amicizia morbosa, che avrà per Frances dei risvolti alquanto pericolosi e inquietanti.

Il regista premio Oscar Neil Jordan (Intervista col Vampiro, La Moglie del soldato) per il ruolo della vedova di The Widow ha voluto Isabelle Huppert, volto del cinema francese e internazionale scelto spesso dai cineasti per ricoprire ruoli di donne enigmatiche e pericolose.
