This higher quality version is from a stream capture at Broadway HD. The stream capture had an SRT subtitle file available to me not included in the DVD release coded to the timings of the HD capture. But the SRT file contained numerous errors. In this subtitle included with the capture version I have repaired stray "commas" that appeared not in relation to line breaks and various phrases marked (mumbles) in the original. I can only think there was a transcriber used who could not hear some of the dialog. But that dialog is audible. I corrected those unintelligible lines using the print version of Anthony Burgess' translation and adaptation for this performance of Cyrano de Bergerac. It is in book form released by Applause Theatre and Cinema Books available at my library. The corrections were done manually line by line using Subtitle Edit free software.
For those interested in the 'before and after' I've included the SRT marked OLD in the
subtitles work folder and the corrected subtitle to load marked PROPER. Load the SRT marked PROPER for the new corrected version to your player.
My help file for adding other languages is in the folder. To add the subtitle use your player to navigate to the subtitle work folder. Additional subs can be added by the user. But as usual be advised that the online translator will commit errors-- some of the same kind of errors I was able to correct in the English subtitle you see.
It was a pleasure to do this as a favorite play and on a Proshot for live theatre which should be preserved. I encourage others to do these accurate subtitle corrections from text perhaps as educational projects.
