Initially, this group was called Charged GВН. The abbreviation 'GBH' in this case stands for 'Grievous Bodily Harm', which means 'grievous bodily harm' (used in police reports). The word 'Charged' was added due to the fact that there was already a band with the same name in America, but it did not last long, and when Charged GBH changed their record label in 1986, the word 'Charged' was successfully eliminated.
The team was formed in 1980, and it consisted of the following four: Colin Abrahall (vocals), Jock Blyth (guitar). Ross Lomas (bass) and Wilf Williams (drums). Their music was ultra-fast-paced and boundlessly driving punk rock, with such a scrappy sound (influenced by Motorhead and The Stooges) that later thrash metal bands Slayer, Metallica and Sepultura more than successfully adapted it to their needs. Charged GBH became instant punk rock superstars after releasing their first mini-album 'Leather, Bristles, Studs And Acne' - one of the best pieces of aggressive punk rock to this day.
Charged GВН outran almost all their competitors, including even Exploited, because in the early years the band's potential was powerful and massive, and their enthusiasm, power and aggression were beyond all criticism. Two more killer magpies 'No Survivors' and 'Sick Boy' were followed by the debut LP 'City Baby Attacked By Rats' - another masterpiece that can be placed without the slightest shame in the top five hard classic British punk albums (along with 'Inflammable Material ' Stiff Little Fingers, 'We Are The League' Anti-Nowhere League, 'Let's Start A War' Exploited and 'Why' Discharge). Charged GBH's first three mini-albums, when put together, turned into a very cohesive CD 'Leather, Bristles, No Survivors And Sick Boys',
'City Babys Revenge' was noticeably more humble and flattering than previous releases, demonstrating Charged GBH's drift into more conventional and less radical punk.
In 1986, Charged GВН went under the wing of Rough Justice, dropped the first part of their name and released the LP 'Midnight Darkness And Beyond', on which they tried to speed up and get heavier again, however, due to the new metallic reflection in their sound, the group began to sound somewhat unusual, but for the most part has not lost its appeal. EP 'Oh No It's G.B.H Again!' and 'No Need To Panic' (combined on one CD) showed that the band had already settled into and capitalized on the new half-metal/half-punk scene - the best of the three-letter GBH. In 1989, Wilf left to make room for Kai, and the band began pushing the punk roots of their music as far as possible, becoming a mediocre hardcore metal band. GBH finally said goodbye to punk rock and even significantly changed their image during the tour in support of the disc 'From Here To Reality'. Surprisingly, despite the band's gradual dwindling of popularity, the footage was not particularly fluid, with Kai handing over his sticks to newcomer Joseph (Fish) Montanaro, who can be heard on 'Church Of The Truly Warped'.
GBH's ever-decreasing popularity has left the band re-evaluating their creative values. The 'Punk Junkies' made a nod to contemporary punk rockers as the band sounded modern and competitive for the first time in ten years. In 2002 a CD titled 'HaHa' was released on which the band once again softened the sound. GBH don't give up and continue to tour with old action movies. In 2010, the studio album 'Perfume And Piss' was released by 'Hellcat Records'. The 'GBH' group is still going strong and touring without losing its hold on the hardcore scene in England and the rest of Europe, as well as in the United States and Japan.
