First Man - Il Primo Uomo è un film del 2018 diretto da Damien Chazelle, basato sul libro First Man: The Life of Neil A. Armstrong di James R. Hansen.

Il film racconta la vita del celebre pilota della NASA Neil Armstrong (Ryan Gosling) e delle vicende che lo condussero a diventare il primo uomo a mettere piede sulla Luna.

L'eroe americano viene ritratto come una persona introversa, taciturna, quasi indecifrabile. Sconvolto dalla morte prematura di sua figlia di due anni, colpita da un tumore al cervello, il pilota tenta di superare stoicamente il trauma buttandosi a capofitto nel suo lavoro, il quale è però costellato da una serie d'incidenti, che destano non poca preoccupazione nei suoi colleghi.

Deciso tuttavia a non farsi lasciare a terra, Armstrong accetta di partecipare al progetto Gemini, frutto dell’ambizione del governo americano e della competizione con l'Unione Sovietica, che in quegli anni aveva raggiunto traguardi notevoli nella cosiddetta corsa allo spazio. Il nuovo progetto diventa per lui una vera e propria occasione di redenzione.
