The Counselor - Il Procuratore è un film del 2013 diretto da Ridley Scott.

Un avvocato di successo (Michael Fassbender), dopo aver chiesto alla sua fidanzata Laura (Penelope Cruz) di sposarlo, spinto dalle necessità economiche tipiche di un matrimonio, accetta la proposta di Reiner (Javier Bardem), un vecchio cliente in affari con la malavita messicana impegnata nel traffico di droga.

Il compito dell'avvocato, un po' troppo spavaldo e un po' troppo sicuro di uscirne indenne, è quello di recuperare un carico di cocaina dal valore di 20 milioni di dollari al confine con il Messico, anche attraverso l'aiuto di Westray (Brad Pitt), un tipo non certo raccomandabile che, tuttavia, prova a mettere in guardia l'avvocato sulla pericolosità e i rischi dell'operazione cui sta andando incontro, e di Malkina (Cameron Diaz), fidanzata di Reiner.

Così l'operazione avrà inizio, il povero avvocato finirà col rimanere spiazzato di fronte a un gruppo di malavitosi per nulla spaventati dall'eventualità della morte e sarà costretto a entrare in un vortice inarrestabile di violenza e pericolo, senza esserne in realtà completamente consapevole.

Sarà proprio rendendosi conto che la sua vita è fin troppo diversa da quella della malavita locale, che l'avvocato dovrà affrontare le conseguenze di un’operazione di traffico di droga mal riuscita.
