In un futuro non troppo distante, in seguito alle conseguenze dell'inquinamento dei cambiamenti climatici, il corpo degli esseri umani ha imparato ad adattarsi, operando continue mutazioni: proprio grazie alle capacità del suo compagno Saul Tenser di sviluppare nuovi organi, infatti, l'ex chirurga Caprice realizza delle performance artistiche in cui attraverso la rimozione chirurgica, la coppia mostra al pubblico come avviene la metamorfosi interna dell'uomo. I loro spettacoli finiscono per attirare l'attenzione non solo di Timlin, investigatrice del Registro Nazionale degli Organi, ma anche di un gruppo sovversivo, interessato all'evoluzione della specie.
