Cat's Eye
Three horror-thriller tales revolve around a mysterious stray cat which is attempting to find a little girl in trouble. In "Quitters, Inc.": the cat is picked up by a shady New York "doctor" who uses experimental techniques to get people to quit smoking. His latest client is a man named Morrison, who learns he'll suffer some terrible consequences if he tries to cheat. In "The Ledge": the cat is picked up by Cressner, a shady Atlantic City millionaire who forces tennis pro Norris (his wife's lover), to walk a narrow ledge around his high-rise penthouse apartment. In "The General": the cat arrives in Wilmington, North Carolina, where it is found by Amanda, the young girl it has been sent to protect. What she needs protection from is a tiny, evil troll who lives behind the skirting board in her bedroom.

Note : I guess I can see why Stephen King and anthologies go together like small towns and dark secrets, the guy is first and foremost a short story writer, after all, doorstop novels notwithstanding. Here he's on a similar vibe of ironic comeuppance and unforeseen consequences as in Creepshow, but with less of a supernatural slant, at least until the last of the three stories. It's not bad, all in all, although you can mostly see where things are going, especially in the first two parts, and the third is only unpredictable because it's kind of weird and nonsensical. On the other hand, some strong performances from Drew Barrymore, James Woods, Alan King, and Robert Hays, and it moves at an entertaining clip.
A stray cat moves through three different stories, the first about a man desperate to quit smoking who joins a supposedly miraculous program which turns out to have unforeseen consequences for both him and his family, the second a typical story about an abusive rich dude whose wife has an affair, leading to the rich asshole plotting complicated revenge only to have the tables turned (see also the last story in Creepshow), and the third about, well, Drew Barrymore and a tiny troll.
This is a nice looking remaster, maybe a little grainier than is ideal, and the color in the first part is slightly odd, but all in all it's nice, clean, and with good contrast and color. 5.1 remaster sounds good, stereo track is fine too, commentary track is an interesting look at the work of often underrated director Teague.
