Il re dell'Africa (Mighty Joe Young) è un film del 1949 diretto da Ernest B. Schoedsack e prodotto da Merian C. Cooper. Il film segnò la prima esperienza di Ray Harryhausen agli effetti speciali in passo uno, qui a fianco del maestro Willis O'Brien. Cooper, Schoedsack e O'Brien avevano già lavorato insieme in King Kong, da cui Il re dell'Africa riprende alcuni elementi; inoltre Robert Armstrong, che nel film interpreta Max O'Hara, aveva già recitato in King Kong nei panni del co-protagonista Carl Denham.



Il film ha vinto il Premio Oscar ai migliori effetti speciali 1950.



Nel 1998 è stato girato un remake intitolato Il grande Joe (Mighty Joe Young).

È un film di fantascienza statunitense sui viaggi nel tempo di una squadra di scienziati che cercano di tornare nel loro anno. Vede come interpreti principali Scott Brady, Anthony Eisley, Gigi Perreau e Abraham Sofaer. È il remake di Viaggiatori del Tempo (The Time Travelers) del 1964



(Mighty Joe Young) is a 1949 film directed by Ernest B. Schoedsack and produced by Merian C. Cooper. The film marked Ray Harryhausen's first experience with stop-motion special effects, here alongside master Willis O'Brien. Cooper, Schoedsack and O'Brien had already worked together on King Kong, from which The King of Africa takes some elements; furthermore Robert Armstrong, who plays Max O'Hara in the film, had already starred in King Kong as co-star Carl Denham. The film won the Academy Award for best special effects in 1950. A remake entitled Mighty Joe Young was filmed in 1998.

La piccola Jane Young vive in una fattoria nell'interno del Congo con il padre ed un piccolo gorilla. Tempo dopo, quando il padre muore, Jane resta sola nella fattoria con il gorilla che è diventato un gigante dalla forza eccezionale. Un giorno, non lontano dalla fattoria s'accampa una spedizione capeggiata da un impresario americano venuto a caccia di leoni. L'accampamento viene assalito e devastato dal gorilla e lo stesso impresario è in serio pericolo, ma l'intervento di Jane lo salva







Gruff, hard-nosed new boss Stanton takes over a scientific research company upon the death of his benevolent father. Scientists Manning, Gordon and White, who are very close to a breakthrough in time travel, are told by Stanton they must have results in 24 hours or face a funding cut-off. .
