[Character Boost](https://github.com/nekotrix/auto-boost-algorithm) identifies which parts of the frame (av1 frame blocks) contain characters (using an anime-segmentation ai model) and allocates more bitrate to those regions during encoding. This ensures finer detail and cleaner line art where it matters most.
At the same time, Progression Boost uses Butteraugli-based analysis to evaluate visual quality differences between frames and the original source and lowers the crf value for those frames, raising bitrate where needed.
