Top of the Lake
In New Zealand's rugged and mountainous South Island, Tui Mitcham, a 12-year-old pregnant girl, has been missing in a vast area near a lake with glacial waters. She is already five months pregnant, moreover, she keeps the father's name to herself. For this reason, Sydney's brave, yet inexperienced Detective Robin Griffin who specialises in crimes against minors comes to her rescue, returning reluctantly back to her hometown and her well-hidden past. Inevitably, this alarming and mysterious case of disappearance will bring the determined detective up against long-lost acquaintances, and eventually, innocent Tui's uninvolved father Matt who has earned quite an unholy reputation in the region. In the end, as Robin gets gradually obsessed with solving the obscure case, her investigation will shortly lead her to a recovery camp led by the enigmatic sexagenarian silver-haired guru GJ, and a side of herself, that up until now, was meticulously kept at bay.

S02E01 China Girl
Detective Robin Griffin is newly back in Sydney, haunted by the baby she had as a teenager and partnered with an eager new recruit, Miranda. When a body in a suitcase washes up on Bondi Beach, Robin is determined to take the case.
S02E02 The Loved One
Armed with the fact that China Girl was pregnant, Robin launches into the investigation, including inside Sydney's sex industry. The meeting with her daughter's parents veers off the rails and puts contacting Mary at risk.
S02E03 Surrogate
Robin is galvanised by her theory that China Girl is a surrogate and ignores the threat of Al Parker’s imminent case against her. Mary accuses Robin of being manipulated by Pyke and Julia into believing Alexander is dangerous.
S02E04 Birthday
There's a breakthrough in the case when Robin interviews Silk 41 regular Brett who suspects that China Girl is his ‘Girlfriend Experience’. Puss tests Mary’s love with a surprise for her 18th birthday celebration.
S02E05 Who’s Your Daddy?
Robin finds a surprising love, but as Puss puts another arm of his audacious plan in place and suspicion grows around Silk 41, her fears for Mary escalate. Then Miranda drops a bombshell that brings her closer to the dead girl.
S02E06 The Battle of the Mothers
Robin and Pyke are desperate to find out if hostage Mary is alive, while Adrian struggles to make sense of the crime scene at Silk 41. As dawn breaks, the gunman is on the loose in Bondi and the beach is about to be flooded with people.
