Проект получает название Орвилл и отдается под руководство молодого капитана Мерсера, у которого сейчас в жизни не самый простой период. Он разлучается с супругой, но не смотря на это не упивается горем, а старается наоборот переключиться на что-то иное и космическое путешествие подходит для этого как нельзя лучше.
