7-Zip is a very good and high quality archiver, which is superior to many competitors and therefore more and more users choose it. The care of the developer of the program is manifested in the distribution of 7-Zip around the world, the translation of the program into 79 languages, among which there is also Russian. 7-Zip is completely free.

7-Zip compresses files with the LZMA algorithm, which is much more advanced than the WinRar archiver algorithm. The LZMA compression algorithm supports multi- and hyper-threading technologies, which also gives the program + on platforms with powerful processors compared to competitors.

In 7-Zip you can create password-protected archives (it will take from 40 to 100 years to decrypt a 17-character password), encrypt file names and of course create self-extracting SFX archives. The encryption uses the 256-bit AES encryption algorithm, which is one of the best encryption algorithms currently available.

First of all, this archiver is valuable for its own 7z format. It is believed that this format has the highest compression ratio and is excellent for archiving large amounts of information (for example, especially large programs or games). Also supported are: ZIP, CAB, RAR, ARJ, GZIP, LZH, CHM, BZIP2, TAR, CPIO, RPM and DEB. It is worth paying attention to the frequent situations, in which the degree of compression of ZIP and GZIP formats in this program is an order of magnitude higher than that of competitors.
