Luca vive in una città di mare della riviera italiana. Insieme ad Alberto, il suo migliore amico, vivrà un'esperienza di crescita personale durante un'indimenticabile estate contornata da gelati, pasta e infinite corse in scooter. Tuttavia il divertimento è minacciato da un segreto profondo: sia Luca sia Alberto sono in realtà mostri marini che provengono da un altro mondo situato appena sotto la superficie dell'acqua.

In una bellissima città di mare della Riviera ligure italiana, il giovane Luca trascorre l’estate con il suo nuovo migliore amico Alberto. Tra scorpacciate di gelati, piatti di pasta e corse in scooter, la spensieratezza dei due non sembra possa essere minacciata, mentre il sole brilla intensamente. Eppure, devono celare continuamente il loro incredibile segreto: entrambi sono dei mostri marini appartenenti a un mondo fantastico, posizionato appena sotto la superficie di quelle magnifiche acque cristalline.

Sia Luca che Alberto preferiscono infatti che la loro vera origine rimanga nascosta. Avevano da sempre avuto voglia di scoprire il mondo degli esseri umani e così, un giorno, hanno scelto di emergere dagli abissi e mimetizzarsi tra le persone. Per tutta la vita, a Luca era stato detto che i mostri marini non dovrebbero mai dirigersi in superficie, poiché le terre emerse non potevano offrire loro nulla di intrigante.

Eppure, la curiosità – tipica degli uomini ma, evidentemente, anche delle creature fantastiche – ha spinto Luca a cercare di far parte della nuova realtà. Era da sempre affascinato dalla dimensione che si trovava al di sopra dei fondali. Ogni volta che un oggetto sprofondava nelle acque azzurre della Riviera, lui era il primo ad accorrere per osservarlo attentamente. Quando si ambienterà nella nuova città e incontrerà Alberto, che si era già acclimatato, apprenderà dei dettagli che perfezioneranno la sua conoscenza.

La loro amicizia rappresenterà così una crescita personale che riguarderà entrambi. Mentre si godranno a pieno la loro libertà, Luca comprenderà però che i pericoli dai quali la sua famiglia lo aveva messo in guardia non erano del tutto privi di fondamento. Sia lui che Alberto potranno muoversi come vorranno, ma dovranno mantenere un’accortezza: restare sempre perfettamente asciutti. La pioggia o uno spruzzo d’acqua potrebbe infatti rivelare la loro natura…
