Con un balzo temporale la serie si sposta nel 1915 concentrandosi sull'età adulta di Eli, dove quest'ultimo è diventato un ricco possidente ed allevatore texano padre di due figli, Pete (Henry Garret, La Bella e la Bestia) e Charles (Shane Graham, Ride), con i quali condivide il desiderio di partecipare alla rivoluzione economica legata alla scoperta e all'estrazione del petrolio, con tutti i rischi che ne conseguono. Infatti Eli è combattuto tra la voglia di aderire al cambiamento e la paura di perdere tutte le proprie ricchezze in caso di fallimento. Assetato di potere e concentrato sull'obiettivo di rendere i McCullough la famiglia più ricca del Texas, Eli non si ferma davanti a nulla compiendo oltre ai sacrifici anche le peggiori ingiustizie e nefandezze che inevitabilmente si ripercuotono sulle nuove generazioni.
