Tratto da un'incredibile storia vera. Il film ripercorre la storia dell'equipaggio di canottaggio formato da otto studenti che, nonostante le avversità e le poche possibilità di successo, riesce ad ottenere in modo del tutto inaspettato un posto alle olimpiadi di Berlino del 1936 in un crescendo di emozioni e successo diventato parte della storia americana e dello sport a stelle e strisce e ambientato in un momento politico ed economico assolutamente particolare e incredibilmente difficile.
