Description
Antonio Galanti (born March 19, 1964 in Volterra) is an Italian composer and organist.Galanti studied at the Luigi Cherubini Conservatory in Florence with Carlo Prosperi: harmony, counterpoint and composition. He obtained degrees in composition (1986), in pianoforte (1985), in organ (1988), in chamber music (1989) and in choral music (1990).
From 1989 to 1998 he taught at the Conservatories of Avellino, Genoa, Udine, Lucca and Sassari. From 1999 he taught harmony, counterpoint, fugue and composition at the Antonio Vivaldi Conservatory of Alessandria.
Galanti won many prizes at international competitions, such as:
• 1989: First prize in the Swiss Organ Competition in Sion
• 1994: First prize in the international organ competition (duo on organ positive with Andrea Vannucchi) in the context of the Festival Musica Antiqua in Bruges,
His interest is mainly in the relationship between old organs and the contemporary experience of them, in the field of liturgy, concert performance and composition.
From 2004 he was a music critic for the monthly magazine “Suonare news”.
